Philosophy Over Pizza is a popular Explorers get together for older kids, now running twice each term. If you haven't tried it before, come and give it a go. This is a great opportunity to meet regularly with other curious minds and make social connections.

The two groups running at this session are:

Senior POP (age guide 12+) and Structured POP (age guide 9+)

Senior POP is aimed at older students who want to do more than just hang out on a Saturday evening. These sessions are very social and free flowing (parents tend to leave the group to their discussions).

Our senior facilitator, Daniel Haig, recently graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Sociology. Daniel wants to foster independent thinking in young people through philosophy and knows how to question to encourage deep thinking. Daniel's group had a really good time earlier this month! He's looking forward to another round of great discussions.

Structured POP is facilitated by volunteer Explorers parents/educators and parents are welcome to listen in or leave the group to their discussions. The structured session will open the door on philosophy and show Explorers what it is all about. The Explorers in this session will consider useful ideas from known philosophers and start asking questions of their own. We will enjoy an hour or so of philosophical discussion followed by construction or board games.

    All this and pizza* too!

*Pizza will be ordered from the Dominos "Value Range" at a cost of $5.00/pizza and collected from 421A Sandringham Road. Check out the menu before completing your registration form https://www.dominos.co.nz/menu .

We are happy to place special orders to accommodate your kid's dietary requirements/preferences. Please use the Dominos website to price up your special pizza and deposit the correct amount to our account.

SAVE THE DATE for our second session of Term 3 - Saturday 11 September 2021

Parents are asked to please stay on site during the session or nominate an attending adult to be responsible for their child. Tea and coffee will be available, as this is a great opportunity to meet other parents.

As parents of gifted and twice exceptional children, our kids quite often excel in some areas whilst they could be explained to struggle in others. These "Spiky Profiles" can create challenges around expectations of others, expectations of self, behaviours, and many more....

Sound like something you experience and could do with connecting to others experiencing the same? Well you are not alone. Let's get together as a parent community and have a korero on the challenges we face, and some of the strategies (good and bad) that we have tried to help give our tamariki and whanau the best possible life experience.

This Zoom session (Zoom link) is for parents to create new and/or strength existing connections, whilst chatting about the things that matter most, our kids! Led by parents, for parents. Why not join us?

Please register so we can forecast numbers on the night.

"Sharing knowledge is not about giving people something, or getting something from them. That is only valid for information sharing. Sharing knowledge occurs when people are genuinely interested in helping one another develop new capacities for action; it is about creating learning processes." - Peter Senge

            • Auckland Art Gallery
            • 30

The Auckland Art Gallery has invited Explorers back for a special guided tour of Slow Wonder, the Bill Culbert exhibition in the Farmer and Friedlander Galleries.

Bill Culbert had a fascination with light and camera obscurers and his work sparks curiosity in adults and kids alike.

The Gallery can accommodate 15 people on the tour. As this number includes adults, we kindly ask that only one adult registers per family and that families "buddy-up" where possible.

Places will be allocated in order of registration. We will contact you one week prior to advise whether you have a place or are on our waiting list.

You are welcome to meet members of the Explorers Committee before the tour in the Gallery Cafe  for coffee, cake and a chat.

We would like to extend our thanks to the Auckland Art Gallery for giving Explorers this wonderful opportunity.

Save the date! Registrations open end of August.
