English etymology – Club day
17 August @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm$5
We are planning a fun club day for Saturday 17th August, 2:30-4:30pm, Mt Albert Presbyterian Church Hall, 14 Mt Albert Rd.
English Etymology with slides, games and prizes with Svetlana.
Svetlana put on a very interesting session for us about Chinese Characters two years ago so very happy to have her back!
The lesson will be about the origin of English words. To know word’s etymology is a big plus. For many words, it is an almost magical experience in discovering the origin of the word. Etymology is a fascinating and rewarding subject. Word origins give insight about how English works. There is logic behind words. The word green was created from the word grass (grass is green).
It is interesting to know how roots combine to form words and word meanings.
Etymology helps increase vocabulary and makes students more linguistically aware.
