About us
Explorers - Tauranga Branch - aims to meet the needs of gifted children as set out by the New Zealand Association for Gifted Children (NZAGC).
The Vision Statement is as follows:
“NZAGC will foster the educational and social development of gifted children through the achievement of a climate in which giftedness is recognised, understood and accepted as a valuable human attribute and in which the special needs of the gifted children are met fully, effectively and with generosity.”
The Explorers club is run by parent volunteers who run family days so that the children and adults alike can make friends in a relaxed environment.
We meet on the third weekend of each month for an activity. We try to extend our knowledge by exposing ourselves to people within the community who are passionate about their chosen career or hobby. Once a term we host an adults only evening. This serves either as an information evening where speakers tell us more about giftedness, or a social get together where we can talk with other parents of gifted kids.
A newsletter is published regularly to members. We welcome both children’s and parents contributions to this.

Who can join?
Any family that has at least one gifted child can join Explorers. For information on what is giftedness have a look at our definition page or go to the NZAGC site. Don’t worry if you are not sure if your child fits the profile... there is no real profile! Everyone is different, come along anyway. We don’t bite and whether or not they really are gifted, you will meet some friendly people and hopefully get some answers and support!
