 Home educating a teenager

Hi there,
I have a daughter who will be in year 9 next year. who has asked to be home educated. Our local high schools leave a lot to be desired. Our daughter is VS and has a very interesting profile from being very superoir in one area to below average in another.... do any of you home educate your teenagers and if so how did you combat the introversion ( my daughter is an introvert and has some avoidance issues) factor and get them socialising?
Thanks

No experience with this what-so-ever!

I would suggest, if you do it, you make socialisation expectations part of a contract with her before entering home-education. Lots of opportunities out there e.g. group music lessons, choir, drama, scouts, sports teams, etc, etc.

Hi R's mama,

We have a 12 year old daughter that is miserable at highschool. She wants to do homeschool too.
Our dd is like your dd and is very superior in most stuff but below average in a few things that hold her back.
She is slightly dyslexic like her dad and she is dygraphic and dyspraxic.
This means she did badly in the testing for highcschool and didn't get into the GATE class.
She is with kids who do not want to be at school and who bully her really badly. I want to do correspondence school and we qualify because she is so gifted but hubby says no.
How did you decide to do it?
Sarah

Hi. I homeschooled both my kids at various times. My daughter was only homeschooled as a teenager but my son was homeschooled for a while in primary school and after the age of 13 in secondary school.
We never had any problems with socialisation and homeschooling. Our very biggest problem was disastrous socialisation at schools!! Bullying from peers and teachers is not good socialisation in my opinion. We did vastly better at home.

We have also used correspondence school and private tutors so feel free to ask away.

Best wishes
MJ
