Hi, we are a family of kiwis living in Switzerland for the last 2 years. My boys aged 11 and 9 have been going to the local schools and are now fluently speaking German and Swiss-German, the elder is also learning french. They are also learning english in school, but it is very basic. As we will be returning to NZ soon (ish) I would like to give them some Saturday english lessons (believe or not they are keen!) Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can look online for some really good worksheets, mainly for my gifted 11 yo. I have googled and looked but the sites I've seen don't really seem challenging enough for him. Also any suggestions would be welcome ...
Hi Jules (Gruezi :-) )
Our school uses wikispaces a lot, perhaps you can find something useful there. the website is: www.wikispaces.com
I have a similar problem the other way around. I am trying to teach/reinforce german with my kids and know what a struggle it can be if they don't hear the language spoken very often by other people. I try and get DVD's in German and just generally try and speak german as much to them as possible (hard when you get English back all the time). In a "german-only" environment e.g. with their german grandparents they are good with the language - goes to show that some must have stuck.
Hi Birgit
Thanks, I haven't tried that one ... good luck with keeping German alive in an english speaking enviroment. I'm sure that would be even harder, at least my boys know that they NEED to speak and write english!
