Interesting messages about books and CD's. I am interested to know what your association members feel about the use of DK CD Rom's in a childs education.
I was just coming in here to recommend a DK CD Rom!!:) (DK standing for Dorling Kindersley)
It's called "Learning Ladder", The Complete Learning System For Your Child. Year 4 - ages 8-9.
It's wonderful! I rented it from the library 9 days ago and Caleb has spent most of his time at home on it! I can hardly get him away from it! He has completed all the maths, and lots of the English. Very impressed by it:) *Thumbs up for DK from this happy parent!!*
Not sure, but I THINK I've seen DK CDs in places like Noel Leeming or Dick Smith, not so much the big shops like Warehouse. I'd like it too! I've just had to pay for it for another week!! Oh and there is different ages/levels too! Good luck trying to find it! let me know if you do and I'll do the same:)
I sell DK CD's through my business Total Learning. We sell heaps of other DK books and CD'd too, I have a catalogue I can send out if you want or you can look what is available on our web site www.totallearning.ws then make an order whenever you want.
I started to sell these products because I have a gifted boy aged 4 yrs 9 mths and could get these thing either very cheaply or free for us to use and then demonstrate to others. It helps that I can make good money from this business also!!
If anyone is interested in buying anything you can e-mail me off site at
johnstreet@xtra.co.nz or call on (04) 934 5328. It is also a great business oppurtunity if anyone is interested.
I, too, have just begun as an independent Total Learning consultant (last week). The DK books are my son's (nearly 6) favourites too, and I began for the same reasons.
For Rebecca, and any others nearby (I'm in East Auckland)...I am having a small business launch at my home tomorrow night.
You are most welcome, please e-mail me privately for details, if you'd like to come (and bring a friend).
I'm glad to hear about the Learning Ladder CD Roms...I haven't used them, but was intending to buy one for my son...they are available at Whitcoulls, though (I am told) they are cheaper through a consultant.
I forgot to say that Caleb was using "DK Toddler School" and "DK Getting Ready For School" when he was little which are awesome too! I've just started Christian on them! (He's 2)
DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH USING CD ROMS IN EDUCATION - A USEFUL RESOURCE - ESPECIALLY IN AN IT AGE - A GOOD ALTERNATIVE THAT APPEALS TO LESS ABLE WRITERS & AGE GROUPS MORE FAMILIAR WITH COMPUTERS THAT TRADITIONAL TEACHING TECHNIQUES. COLOURFUL - VOLUMATIC & INTERACTIVE
I am also just starting out as a consultant for Total Learning in Christchurch if anyone is looking for a consultant in this corner of the world feel free to contact me...

Learning Ladder cd roms which come in different age group are $24.95 in our catalogue
Hi Rachel
I had the same problem with DK and win XP. If you go to their website (see back of DC case), you can down load a patch to fix the problem.

Hi,
We were reccommended to try "ClueFinders" cd's for our daughter and she loves them. For an older age group, Jas started at about 7. A great range of problem solving, math and literacy skills.
I know this thread hasn't been added to for awhile. I spotted it while I was looking up something else. Just to let you know, Total Learning sell a lot of the DK CD Roms and until the end of May they are on special - Buy 1, get a 2nd one for free! It applies to the $25.99 CD Roms only (which is most of them, with the exception of Bear and Penguin's Big Reading Adventure). If you are in Christchurch and don't already have a Total Learning consultant who you normally buy from, and are interested in finding out more about the CD Roms, please send me an email (darelle@paradise.net.nz). If you are in another town, I may be able to help you locate a consultant if you are interested. We also sell books - many which are suitable for gifted children.
Hi there,
I also am a total learning consultant, purely as a way to get great books and cds for my gifted 2 year old. Total learning now stock the famous Ladybird Peter and Jane series which I am using to teach my daugter to read. At 2years and 2 months, she can read more than 20 words after a week of training. I have a good friend that used the same series to teach her three children to read before they were 2 and a half and they all ended up going through the gifted children society in Christchurch.
I am able to be contacted by email malena@penney.co.nz or by phone 021 1792708 to order the books, to order a book look where you can receive free books even without securing other party bookings or to become a consultant yourself.
