Are we allowed to ask about specific psycs on here? if so, anyone had experience with lynn berresford, what she uses, and, does she come down to the south island at all? Not at all happy with what we've had so far (and yes, we have some expertise in the field), need a decent assessment on our kids, one that follows the latest guidelines from the literature.
From what I have heard, I understand she would be fantastic and we really need someone able to pick up on the various 'issues' our kids have - testing issues, possible 2e etc. Might be worth a visit up North but at the same time we are wary of making too much of a big deal of their "issues". Taking a couple of mornings off school to go and answer some questions with someone just down the road is one thing, but a trip to the North Island for testing...hmmm .... they already have complexes about testing etc anyway.
Perhaps it's time to visit an old friend in Auckland and while we're up North ....
She has tested our twice except son, once in Auck and once in Chch. Our son loves her, and we so appreciated her knowledge around twice except. Part of her report gave us a full page of recommendations for both home and school.

Lynn is very very good. She has seen our twice exceptional son several times over the last four years and our gifted daughter twice. When she saw our son for the first time he was an unhappy boy who was conscious of being different. In a series of meetings with him she turned his world view of himself completely around and taught him to be proud of his abilities. He loves seeing her. My daughter is more reserved but Lynn identified behaviours in her that were going to be self destructive in the long and short term. As a result we were able to change those behaviours to more positive ones.
What is of most value with Lynn's assessments is that she gives concrete recommendations for the school to follow and unfailing support when you encounter difficulties with however the school decides to interpret her guidelines. In two different schools her suggestions have worked, even if over a longer timeframe that one would have liked or anticipated.
Our family and school outcomes have been enriched to a major extent by consulting Lynn. Above all she is a consummate professional who is superb at what she does.
