We are looking at options for my son next year. He is in Year 7 and hates it (has been bullied by both teacher and students and often says that he is not learning anything). School has been an ongoing issue actually. He is 2E (processing difficulties).
We are looking for a secondary school that would cater to his needs, where he would have teachers who were willing to not pigeon hole, students who would not instantly label and that he would like. We would look at relocating if such a school could be found. Any options would be considered (private, public, co-ed, single sex etc). Does this sound like an impossible dream?
What have others experiences in terms of secondary schools?
My son had very similar issues! He is in Year 8. He will be going to St Bedes in Chch next year. They have been so supportive around him being 2E. I spoke to a parent a year ago whose son is attending and she got a phone call to say he was being moved to the top math group. She told the teacher, but he is 2E! He said thats ok, most of them are! It has been very refreshing to not have to fight for the recognition/understanding!
