Hi any help, tips or advice would be great!
We have 3 kids 3,5,7. The 2 older ones do show signs of being gifted and the middle son is being assessed at the indigo centre in a couple of weeks as we have had 'trouble' at his current school in particular with a very intense teacher - who feeds back every indiscretion however minor to us and it is getting pretty demoralising - She has even suggested he may 'do better at a different school' this has been said more than once!
He is only 5 and can be impulsive, unpredictable but is very creative and thinks on a different level! He has a very strong sense of justice and will intercede on behalf of other kids if something 'unfair' is going on.....and of course gets in trouble. He is no saint but his intentions are very well meaning - he is sensitive and has limited self regulation when he is over stimulated.
The kids current school does not run GATE program although seem more than happy to help out with reading recovery! I think my older daughter 7 is bored and not being challenged? I am not looking for acceleration just an expansion of her knowledge, interests and a love of learning.
We are looking to move and i have been looking at Coatesville School, Dairyflat School and Stella Maris Catholic school in Silverdale.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Whangaparaoa Primary school - great with gifted kids -run great gifted programmes and also ODS is on site there if that's where you want to go.
They have got a bit stricter with their zoning - definitely worth a vist and a chat with the staff.
Red Beach school don't do much with their gifted kids - only just started up a (limited) GATE programme this year after a gap of several years with nothing, however teacher running programme is fab.
Don't know about the other schools, am sure somebody else will.
