I used to travel to Hawkes Bay and Taupo, on occassion, to do a group of assessments - but it just became too hard to get sufficient organised together to keep that going.
Now I make special arrangements for "out of towners" if they can come to Auckland for a day or over night.
How this works depends a lot on the age of your child, and your travel arrangements. Older children cope OK with two sessions in one day so long as they have a really good lengthy lunch break, younger ones or those who get tired more easily, or for whom the travel works better that way - we suggest consecutive day appointments. A full assessment takes 4 hours [2x2hrs].
If you can't find anyone suitable more locally - I'd be happy to see you. You'll find contact details on the NZAGC website
Hi Alison,
Thanks Alison, It is actually for a friend of mine who doesn't have access to NZAGC forums and lives rurally in the Taupo area. I have passed all your info on to her, her name is Robyn. I 'm sure she will be in touch soon.
Thanks again, Karen :o)
Just to add to your friend's list of assessors, my son was seen by Karen Brittin who lives in Havelock North. It was organised through the Gifted Education Centre in Auckland. Karen was very thorough and the whole interview took about 1 1/2 hours with a detailed report at the end.
