Gifted and Talented Teacher (fixed term, part time):
Blockhouse Bay Primary School is interested in talking to anyone who has experience in extending high ability primary school children. Times and subjects are negotiable but could be one or two days a week for the rest of 2010 (and possibly beyond), starting in term 3. Areas of study could include future problem solving, philosophy for children, robotics, drama or in any other area that you have a strength and passion for.
If this interests you, please contact the Principal.
I have been running such programmes for G & T kids in Electronics, robtics, Flight , rocketry and astronomy for many years.
Curently I run two After schook Sciece and Technology Clubs
one at Parnell and the other at Devonport.
Very little is happening in schools for G & T kids and they are missing out in a big way.
I can run a similar programme for you G & T kids
I am NZ trained registered teacher and I am working almost full time.
But i can run workshops from 2- 4 pm once or twice a week at your school .

Has anyone seen the university on wheels stuff? Its new(ish) I think and goes to the school with the teachers on board and all materials. Sort of running a school within a school it looks like. Out here in South Auckland they seem to be popular. I dont know what it costs though and I guess it could be expensive.
I looked into University on Wheels for my small class of gifted kids, but it was going to cost $65 per child which makes it completely unaffordable for our low decile school.
My understanding is that it is based on the Jean Hendry Harris holiday programmes so offers much the same as what the kids would get at the holiday programme.
My ds has attended these holiday programmes before and he enjoyed them, therefore we won't be using University on Wheels at the moment, it would be covering much the same stuff.
The good thing I can see is that they can pick and choose which days to attend and don't have to attend them all, therefore the cost can be kept down, and they only do something that really interests them. However you would most likely have to get permission from their school to be gone for the day.
So its just like One Day School then? I must say we were a bit disapointed with ODS tho this was a few years back. Weve been disapointed with most things quite honestly including BDome, Parnel Trust, etc. All a bit low level. Havent tried Jean Hendey Harris tho weve heard quite good things. Has she moved away from the holiday/after school classes? If so its all a bit to late for us.
These classes (Barbara's) may be just what some of us need. We were pretty upset to find out that Jeans not running the Achieve Potential classes these upcoming holidays. My kids just loved the one they went to in April.
Hi my son went to JHH last year during one holidays, from what I gather she doesn't provide the holiday programmes every school holidays. I don't think this new programme is instead of, but just another opportunity for our kids to be stretched.

I didnt quite realise that so oldest boy will be v.relieved!!! If she has moved into the schools does that mean there might be some kind of funding attached to the classes? And if they are in the schools will they still be able to keep a cap on the numbers I wonder. I could not really find that info on the website.
