Psych testing

Author: Carolyn  Date:   06-03-07 10:09 Our daughter age 8 1/2 was assessed as being a gifted reader when she started school. She also scored highly across the board although not in the gifted range. The school skipped her up to year 2 after 1 term in Year 1 and she has been in composite classes since. This year in a 5/6 class and I imagine she is operating at the year 6 level ie 2 years above her age group.(but reading way higher) We find her to be a little "different" and suspect her classmates find her the same. She has a lovely best friend and although she is confident she finds it hard to make new friends among her class mates. We notice that she seems not to make use of her brain in her class work and wonder whether she is bored or whether her giftedness has "worn off"!! We have been told that she won't be assessed through the school until next year but wonder whether we should organise one privately this year to guide us in our dealins with the school and intermediate options coming up. We would appreciate advice from some of you out there who no doubt have faced these same problems.

Author: concerned parent  Date:   06-03-07 12:31 hi there my son is only 6.5yrs but last yr when he was 5.5yrs i decided to go with private ed psych testing to confirm my gut feeling that he was gifted and he is/was. so far he is in composite class this yr 2/3, but they are keeping him in his yr 2 level but we have found it invalueable to have a assessment to talk with the school he is now attending one day school and we will review that end of term mainly the ax helped us see where he was gifted, which is accross the board he doesnt achieve at all to his full potential at school in answer to your qu i think it would help to see how gifted your daughter is and then to use this to ensure she is reaching her full potential in/out of school
