The George Parkyn Centre runs an online version of One Day School for gifted children who live in rural, isolated areas or in urban areas where they do not have access to a One Day School. Formerly called the COOL programme, the website has been rebranded as GO Gifted Online and some modifications made to the site to make it even more user friendly for the children. GO will continue to offer the same high standard of teaching and learning as COOL and to foster the sense of community online.
This programme is called GO Gifted Online and is open to children from 7-12 years of age. Children 'meet' twice a week in a class chatroom, where they discuss the topic and concepts for the lesson and also have one-on-one time with the teacher in a mentor room. Work is completed in school, and it is necessary that the child have access to a computer for the chatroom times and for research work. Creative products do not require computer access necessarily.
If you are interested in finding out more about GO Gifted Online, the website is www.giftedonline.edusearch.co.nz
The contact person for GO is Karen Yeo, ph 03 578 8453, or email at karen.yeo@georgeparkyncentre.org for further information.
A new intake will be available from the start of Term 3.
