As local kindergarten teacher in Hastings, advocating for gifted young children in Hawke's Bay, I have been frequently contacted by other early childhood settings as well as GSE as well as parents, wanting to know if there are any parent groups or gifted preschooler meetings out there in Hawke's Bay.
Sadly, I don't know of any. There are exhausted parents, asking for support, for the possibility to have their preschoolers mingle with likeminded peers, maybe in the SmallPoppies way but either there are not enough people asking for this or no one is interested enough to start something. Or I simply don't know about it.
I have made it my goal to get professional development and resources for early childhood teachers, being involved with giftEDnz and recently with the local regional strategy group.
Just had another call yesterday from a teacher who was inquiring for a parent, if there is any gifted parent interestgroup here in Hawke's Bay?
Kind regards Carola
Did you get anywhere with finding a group or support in the Hawkes Bay?.
Our little girl has just turned 2, and we are in need of somewhere in the area like you describe. She is spelling (knows alphabet), counting (20+), has a large vocab, and is reciting nursery rhymes word for word from memory...
Plunket suggested trying to get her into early childhood centres early, but apparently most are not keen on taking them at her age...
