 playgroup Auckland

Hi was just wondering, I've been in touch with an Educational Psychologist and Small Poppies and we are about to start that, but are there any parents of these wonderful little horrors hehe that would like to meet up for a coffee group /play group in Auckland? We live in Manukau but spend alot of the week in Mt Albert so anywhere roundabouts would do for us hehe my son is 19months old and I am 20, it's a totally scary and amazing experience being his mother especially as he is my first and is just miserable with kids younger than him or even his own age as he expects that they can all do the same as him and he gets frustrated!!

Hi Ariella,

Just to let you know that Auckland Explorers hold get togethers for 'Young Explorers' (ages 6 and under) once a month. We normally go to a park or an indoor playground either over the Shore or in Ellerslie/East Tamaki. That could be something to watch out for. We usually advertise on the forum under 'club activities' and these get togethers are completely informal and for members and non-members alike.

Cheers!

Rebecca

These sound great but are a long way for people more in the Centre of town, if anyone is keen on catching up a little more centrally please feel free to contact me by post or directly by e-mail.

Rachelle (in the CBD with no transport!!!)

I've got a 1 year old who could use some older or more able playmates and am in Mangere Bridge but my car is likely to be out of commission for a little bit as some mongrel hit us then took off (and have only had it about 2 months grrrr) but once that is sorted I will be back to dropping my daughter into her course occassionally (Queen Street) and have a 7 seater so could easily pick up extras.

It doesnt help that I am geographically challenged and phobic about driving anywhere I dont know - but I know my way to town and back.

It's probably a bit late to be replying to this but hopefully some of you will see it. My son is 20 months and though I haven't had any testing done I am sure my son is very very bright. He knew 1-10 at 17 months and the alphabet, both the names and sounds of the letters at 18 months. He has a vocab of well over 200 words. He is mostly language based and an amazing communicator. He also displays many other signs of a gifted child. I have been looking for other bright kids for my son to play with. He is a very lovely, gentle, social and compassionate boy. He is at an age where he would like to play with other children as well as alongside. I see him frustrated with children his own age and many older because they can't communicate as well or when they do it appears as aggression, which inturn makes my boy seem very unhappy and confused.
If any of you would like to get together, we would love to give it a try and see if we can make any connections. How about meeting at the museum one day? We could go in the afternoon after a sleep and perhaps have some afternoon tea together there? Otherwise we are happy to meet up for a cup of tea and a chat.
My email address is woodyclayton@gmail.com and we live in grey lynn.

Hi Malak & Caroline,

if you have the time and inclination, I took my son when he was that age I took him to Auckland Central Playcentre, you could phone and have a visit if that sounds like your family, Dads welcome 376 1492. There are also Plunket playgroups one at Elim Church, I think it is in Cook Street and does Mainly Music as well as a playgroup, Parnell has a playgroup as well. I am hoping my information is up to date :) Its been a few years. Most of all Plunket can be a really big help with playgroups. None of these are specifically for gifted children but could be what you are looking for.
