I have recently returned to Taranaki, we have a 2.5 year old boy and we suspect that he is gifted, he is really full on at the moment... he is starting an excellent daycare centre soon which will be good, I hope, but I was wanting to give him more! he bores very easily then becomes naughty. Are there any existing support groups in Taranaki, or anyone else in the same boat that would like to get together?
I am also returning to New Plymouth this year with my 2.5 year old son, whom I also think is gifted. Please could you share with me any relevant information you may have found in Taranaki.
nice to hear from you, unfortunately now our son is 3.5years old and we haven't found anything in Taranaki for gifted pre-schoolers. Now his daycare centre is having trouble with his behaviour, we will probably go through our pediatrician soon to have an assessment on his giftedness in preparation for school.
Hi there, this thread is pretty old now! But just wondering if you had found any support groups etc here in Taranaki, if so I would be keen to hear from you (I have a 4.5 year old girl).

I am in New Plymouth with a gifted girl who is now 11. When she was in preschool I tried to find a gifted support group, but there were none, and I found out others before me had tried to find and / or start groups too. In the nine years since I have not become aware of any support groups for gifted children here either.
Start one! Exchange contact info and meet up - it could well be your best chance of meeting up with others locally. Gifted kids thrive on the opportunity to be with others like themselves. Just meet up!
Hopefully you will have all seen that there is a New Plymouth branch of the NZAGC opening. We have an inaugural meeting this saturday the 16th, 3pm, at New Plymouth Boys High School. Would love to see you there!
Thanks,
Reneke.
