Summer Camp - February 2002 Snells Beach

Another great Explorers camp which failed to be affected by the occasional dampness in the weather, or the lack of a flying fox due to decommissioning of the camp. This will be the last camp at Snells Beach as the camp has been sold for development.

The majority of activities were part of the Family Competition. It was a tough competition but fortunately we found a winner. (Despite being a lot of fun - we didn’t actually want to run it again next year!!!) The new families to the camp proved to be worthy adversaries, as did the more experienced of the group.

Below are the results for each part of the competition and the overall results. Despite the provision for bribing of the judges, at $100 US per point, this proved to be unnecessary and an unpopular option!!! The families won on their own merits. Better come next year to find out what it’s all about.

The main strategy for winning appears to be to enter everything even if you don’t win in every category. Tenacity is rewarded. Results:

As can be seen the “smartest” family indeed won the competition to become Top Family for 2002. Congratulations to Ros, Mike, Bryony and Cindy Smart.

Canoeing was also a popular activity at the camp although some of the teens may have been practising “anti-canoeing”. Rain at this time just meant that the parent supervisors were empathetic to the “Canoers” and all go wet together!!

Children’s Creative Stories:

Princess Di was zipping along in the car, exhilarated after a great night with the man she loved??? (or did she). Here he was beside her and she closed her eyes and dreamed of what the future held...................................................... Imagine the crash never happened, what would have been her life?

Gizmos and Gadgets: Bryony Smart. (1st)

After marrying her love, Di became chief in charge of organising the “Gizmos and Gadgets” for the Dream Home they were designing/creating. Di had never had anything to do with something involving technology or physics let alone trying to purchase pieces of equipment and design a house around them. One Tuesday afternoon Di rocked up to the TV store in her Mercedes Benz hoping to purchase a TV. The sleazy storeowner greeted her with his greasy smile and showed her the way in. He tattled on about his wonderful TVs and VCRs while Di looked around his shop. It was in a bad state of repair and smelt of several disgusting things including dead skunk (utterly revolting). As she watched, his dog walked out of the back room and raised his leg to the TV the man was trying to sell her. Di could barely contain her giggles, as the man turned beetroot red and then a sickly shade of green. Di soon found out why, as she smelt the dog pee. Now that was revolting. She left really fast despite the salesman’s protests. As Princess Di had the right to remove the business from the area, she didn’t! She demolished it!, along with the salesman, (the dog was the only survivor as Di had pity on him) and removed the business name from every book. After that “lover” did all the technology buying and Di stayed at home.

Princess Diana was so excited. She was on her way to church. She was to be married with the Queen. At the church the Queen was worried “Oh I do hope she gets here I’m dying to get married again. That horrible Duke of Edinburgh is tapping on my window every second. I’ve never liked him after he got in a ship and blew up my little cruiser”.

Two Hours Later:
They were up to the “I do” saying and when any objections were asked, the Duke of Edinburgh burst in,
“Please oh majesty take my hand”.
“No Fatso” said Princess Diana and punched him.
“How dare you punch someone royal” said the Queen and punched Diana.
Suddenly the Germans popped in and said “Excuse me but can I borrow the world for a bit”. “Yes of course kindly gentlemen” said Princess Diana. And the Germans went off to start World War Three. But the Queen wouldn’t have this so she went after them. Diana, Duke and the Queen went to karate lessons.

Two Months Later:
The Queen was in Germany kicking rockets over and buying lollipops. German soldiers fled up a pole then all surrendered, Death Toll: 0.00. What a good war comparing to the others.
