Application

If one or more children in your family are eligible to join Explorers (click here for criteria), then either:

click here to print out the Membership Application FormMembership Application Form, and send it to the Membership Secretary with evidence and your payment. You will need Acrobat Reader to display and print this form. After printing the form use the back button on your browser to return to this page.

email the Membership Secretary (membership@explorers.org.nz).


If there is definitive evidence of giftedness (e.g. PATs, IQ testing, reading age being on or above the 95th percentile), approval will be given immediately.

With other applications there may be some delay as the Membership Secretary may need to present them to the committee.

Sometimes a referee may be requested for futher information.

Subscription

Membership applies from 1st January to 31st December

Full branch family membership (which includes membership to the NZAGC) is $75 per year - Join between 1st September and 31st December and pay only $37.50.

$25 goes to the branch to pay for administration, newsletters, postage, books, toys, games, etc.

Individual membership is also available for individuals, associations or schools who support the aims of the NZAGC.

Family Membership

The whole family is welcome to attend clubdays, holiday programmes and camps (though some activities require each participant to be gifted). You will also receive the Explorers newsletter and the national magazine "Tall Poppies" several times a year.

It is a condition of membership that members assist in the running of the club, helping with duties such as dishes and cleaning up at clubdays, providing expertise for clubdays and trips, or joining the committee.

Membership of Explorers gives automatic membership to NZAGC. Auckland is a member of the National Council of NZAGC and keeps in touch with other branches around New Zealand. Visit the NZAGC website for further details on the national body.

Dual Membership

If you live in southern Auckland, you may be interested in the Franklin branch, "Discoverers", which meets on Sundays at Pukekohe. If you wish to join them as well, it is only an extra $25 annually.
